Sadler’s Wells London / Sylvie Guillem (UK)
6000 miles away
The Melbourne Festival season follows great reviews from Adelaide and Sydney earlier in 2013 and previous sell-out performances at London’s Sadler’s Wells, Venice’s Dance Biennale and New York’s Lincoln Centre.
First up is a duet from Jiří Kylián’s work 27’52” performed by former Nederlands Dans Theater dancers Aurélie Cayla and Lukas Timulak to the music of Dirk Haubrich.
The second performance features iconic dance-maker William Forsythe’s new duet, Rearray, for her and Teatro alla Scala Ballet étoile Massimo Murru, with music by David Morrow.
Completing the event, acclaimed Swedish choreographer Mats Ek’s new solo, Bye also stars Guillem. Set to Beethoven’s last piano sonata, Bye has been heralded as a “masterpiece” by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
This is a rare opportunity to experience some of the most technically sophisticated work of Guillem’s incredible career and a once in a lifetime chance to see both 6000 miles away and PUSH (a Melbourne exclusive) in the same program.
“Sylvie Guillem is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant ballerinas of her generation” The Guardian UK
“Dance doesn’t get much better than this…watching artistry of this calibre is a kind of religious experience.” Dance Australia
“Consummate dancer Sylvie Guillem imparts an electric thrill.” The Australian
“You can’t take your eyes off Guillem. The flair and virtuosity of her dancing stops you in your tracks” Evening Standard UK
“Profoundly beautiful” The Observer UK
“This scintillating bill is the result of Guillem’s intelligence, skill and passionate engagement with the art of dance” The Daily Telegraph
